Privacy Policy

Last updated: March 1, 2026

Overview

Tabby is designed with privacy as a core principle. We do not collect, store, or transmit your personal data. This policy explains what data Tabby interacts with and how it is handled.

Data We Do Not Collect

Data Sent to LLM Providers

When Tabby generates a completion, it sends a prompt to your configured LLM provider (e.g., OpenRouter, OpenAI). This prompt may include:

This data is sent directly from your device to your LLM provider using your API key. Tabby does not proxy, log, or retain this data. Your LLM provider's own privacy policy governs how they handle this data.

API Keys

Your API key is stored locally on your device in ~/.config/tabanywhere/.env. It is never transmitted to Tabby servers (we don't have any). The key is only used to authenticate requests to your chosen LLM provider.

Local Storage

Tabby stores the following data locally on your device:

Waitlist

If you join our waitlist via the website, we collect your email address solely to notify you about Tabby updates. We do not share your email with third parties. You can request removal at any time.

macOS Accessibility

Tabby requires macOS Accessibility permissions to detect text fields and insert completions. This access is used exclusively for autocomplete functionality and is never used to monitor or record your activity.

Children's Privacy

Tabby is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page with an updated date.
